Grace spent Memorial Day at her first barbecue, hosted by friends Aditi and Sean. In this photo, she may look like she is sleeping, but she actually is busy sending telepathic messages to the grillmaster encouraging her to make the hamburgers in baby-sized portions.

Later, Grace attracts an admirer. Dylan looks on as Grace wonders if she already has a date to prom locked in.
Although there’s still more excitement ahead for little Grace at the time of this posting (her first barbecue!), she felt she just couldn’t go on unless she posted some of her favorite photos from this weekend.
On Jim’s side of the family, Grace finally got to meet her Grandma, her Aunt Mary and her Uncle/Godfather Ed. Here she is, in what looks like an underwater scene, with her Grandmother. It’s obvious that Grace is in the middle of telling Grandma something extremely funny.

Here she is with her Aunt Mary - Mary is closer in age to Grace then Jim is to Mary. If that doesn’t make a father/brother feel old…

In a moment of high excitement, here’s Grace with her Uncle Ed. She has her hands in the “hooray” position because she’s been very excited about meeting this dual-hatted relative (Uncle & Godfather). In fact, she was so excited that she decided to suck her thumb for the very first time, while listening to Ed hum a few They Might Be Giants tunes.

Joe, who visited Grace in the hospital, wanted to see Grace in her “natural” element (a crowded and extremely warm Manhattan apartment). Joining Joe was his wife Kristen, who appears shocked at the potentially scandalous things Grace was telling her.

And once again, here’s the Blockus champion of New York, Joe:
There’s something about a 10-day old baby that helps you develop a keen interest in photography. Here’s one Lara took of Grace while she was sleeping - we think it’s a keeper:
In anticipation of meeting her Great Grandma (on Jim’s side of the family) Grace once again used her sixth sense for fashion and coordinated outfits perfectly with, GiGi, the woman formerly known as Grandma. Here we see Grace’s Great Grandma looking on in disbelief at Grace’s incredible foresight.

Notice how well they match (below). Lara is so wowed by the whole incident that she loses herself momentarily and betrays her intense hankering for the new X-Men movie coming out this summer by imitating Cyclops - the mutant who can shoot laser beams from his eyes.

Having just expressed her desire for a baby pedicure (I’m sure you can get one somewhere in this City), Grace decides to show off the shoes her Grandma Rymarquis made for her:

And finally, during her daily walk to Madison Square Park, Grace pays a visit to “Uncle” Vince to give an early, yet tentative RSVP for his annual Picnic in the Park event held each July in Central Park. Always the cheap date, Grace informed Vince to avoid including her in the count for wine and cheese - she’s experimenting with a milk-only diet (perhaps a rival to the South Beach and Atkins diets) for at least the entire summer and possibly into the fall.
And what to Grace’s wandering eyes should appear …(and yes, Grace does have eyes - after reviewing the previous days’ posts, she noticed that one might be tempted to conclude either A) she’s a chronic sleeper OR B) she has an eyeball deficiency — neither of which are true) …. but her Grandpa (of the Fuchster variety) - who was in NYC for a conference and had a chance to stop by. Here we see him imparting true grandfatherly advice “if your upper lip ever gets this hairy, for the love of God wax it”

Below is confirmation that Grace does indeed open her eyes - surprisingly, this was not taken at 2 a.m., her absolute favorite time to open her eyes (usually accompanied by a prolonged “wah” and red face)

Grace also received some good news that her Aunt Anne was cast as Cherubino in the Marriage of Figaro - an Opera Anne will perform in Rising Sun, Indiana this summer - here we see Grace showing her support of her Aunt by demonstrating near-perfect vocal technique, while simultaneously showing off her uvula collection:

And finally, Grace shows how underwhelmed she is to be a New York City baby - preferring to stare at a swarm of German tourists instead of taking in the architectural wonder that is the Flatiron Building on a beautiful NYC afternoon. She was a tad bit disappointed that she wasn’t asked to be in one of the 8,000 photos they took - she may have to sport a camouflage onesie next time in order to appear more Euro-friendly.
Once again, Grace was the women of the hour as visitors flocked all the way from the East 60’s to the East 30’s (an eternity by Manhattan standards) to stop by and say hello.
Here’s a shot of Grace and Meri:

And another shot with Grace and Liz:
Today, Grace is 6 days old! Last night, we took her for her first walk to Madison Square Park. As you can see, she was not impressed by the modern art in the background. She did, however, seem to enjoy the smell of the Shake Shack Burgers- only a few more months to go before we can let her try one!

Here’s a picture of her still bundled up from her walk when we got home. I just thought she looked so cute I had to post this one.

Today, we took her for her first doctor’s appointment. No photos, but good news- all is well and she is gaining weight at a good rate- she’s already up to 8 lbs! Hmm, I wonder where she gets her love of eating from…….
Although Grace’s parents are terrible at remembering to take photos, here are a few of Grace with the visitors she’s already received (sorry to everyone who stopped by and didn’t make this posting). Already known for her wit and biting humor, Grace, the budding conversationalist, is quite good at making her presence known in the room and keeping audiences captivated.
First we find her with Dr. Berg - the Doctor who delivered her. Notice how he nuzzles in close to hear what she has to say (Grace is already a master of discretion). Her parents have no idea what they discussed but as they say, what happens in the delivery room, stays in the delivery room!

Not to be outdone, Dr. Bernstein stopped by to start recruiting Grace for the NYU Psychiatry Residency program. Grace listened attentively and gave a well thought out yet non-committal answer.

Always in search of some cutting-edge fashion advice, Ann stopped by with her boyfriend Josh for a fashion consultation. Grace’s fashion trend prediction for the rest of 2006 - Sesame Street Diaper IN (demonstrated below); thong underwear OUT!

Finally, Joe, a veteran “Big Brother” (to a boy) stopped by to pad his resume a bit — he can now add “plays nicely with girls” to his CV.
Grace Maria Fuchs, was born on May 18, 2006 at 11:38 a.m. She weighed 7 lbs., 11 ounces. A collection of some of her favorite photos will follow.
Here’s a shot of Grace taking it easy after a long day’s work:

Grace meeting her mom Lara for the first time - well, not really, they did kind of get to know each other after 9 months.

and finally, Grace in the incubator after her first bath:
